Baked this for my boyfriend’s birthday because we knew each other through skating 🙂

Recipe:

Chocolate Fudge Frosting:

4 ounces (120 grams) unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped

2/3 cup (150 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature

1 1/3 cups (160 grams) confectioners (powdered or icing) sugar, sifted

1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

For the batter itself, I used pre-mix cake mix and all I need to prepare apart from the cake mix, was water, egg and butter.

Flour+

I got this cakemix from REDMAN, a store that has all the baking materials you need.

1. I sieved the cake mix although it wasn’t really required.

But I thought it’ll be good to loosen the flour and remove any clumps.

2. I added only 4 eggs, though it stated 4-5 eggs. Bad choice bad choice, because the cake was quite hard! 🙁 So I would suggest adding 5 eggs instead.

After mixing the flour, egg and water, it’s time to add in the melted butter!

Tip: Put your butter in the microwave and heat it up for roughly 1 minute and it should do the trick!

Tip2: It is important to melt your butter, if not you might bite onto a clump of butter while eating the cake! It’s to ensure thorough mixing too.

This should be what you’ll get after mixing the melted butter in the batter.

35-40 minutes later…

I used a knife to cut the shape of a skate out.

But I realize the size was too big for my base! So I trimmed it even more.

I baked the batter twice because it wasn’t enough. The recipe for the batter was only enough for one layer, so I baked the second time.

After which, I went ahead to apply the chocolate frosting!

Use a small spatula or knife to do the smoothing out of frosting.

Now, how to make the ‘wheels’ of the skates? :3

I used brands chicken essence bottle!! Hahaha.

I couldn’t find something that has a round opening until I found this.

Simple press the bottle down the sponge cake, and use a toothpick to extract it out. Try not to make the cake stuck inside!!

Tip3: To coat the wheel-shaped cake, use a tooth pick and coat it with frosting first!

Then, use the spatula to smoothen any rough edges.

Easy peasy!!

AND TADAAAAA!

The end product after refrigerating for 4 hours.

It was a last minute decision to add the chocolate rice to act as shoelaces.

As i’ve mentioned, the cake was a little had and I was very disappointed in myself 🙁

But then again, I thought the cake looks cute!
