Mordecai was formerly a skin salon specially catered to men. Funny enough, most of the male clients either come with their wives, or their wives would be the one visiting the salon to ask some questions before ‘sending’ their husbands to Mordecai. Since there’s completely no harm welcoming female clients, Mordecai has since started doing facials for ladies too.

As I spoke with Mr Lam, the owner of Mordecai Skin, I understand quite a few important things, especially the strong philosophy Mordecai carries. In this saturated and competitive facial industry, Mordecai is indeed different from its competitors. The natural skin care products they used are from this brand called Eve taylor, which is from England and absolutely environment friendly, without artifical elements and alcohol that may be harmful to the skin. As Mordecai believes in both good service and good products, all their beauticians are qualified with at least a diploma in aesthetician.

Below are some of the photos taken during the charity events Mordecai took part in. Personally, I can feel the extra mile Mordecai took – to nurture inner beauty along with a positive progression in external beauty.

One unique thing that I noticed about Mordecai is that they are really transparent about discounts and packages. Hold on, which facial salon provides discounts for different group of people? It’s honestly my first time hearing this and I’m pleasantly surprised! They have up to 40% discount for students because they want to make facial treatments affordable to the people really in need. There was once a young boy with full face of acne came to Mordecai for help, and I thought that image was really heartwarming.

The facial treatment I did that day was nothing to do with microdermabrasion, since I last did it with Glomex weeks ago. This time I did IPL skin treatment and it’s my first time doing it! At first I was really nervous and worried because I’m not sure how it would feel, knowing that IPL is about using heat and light. But thankfully, the process was totally painless and… really fast. It took abt 3 mins I suppose. Haha!

More info about IPL Treatment:

A broad spectrum of light is transmitted through a small, smooth, transparent handpiece which is gently placed over the skin. Cut-off filters in the handpiece change the wavelength range allowing it to be optimized for different applications and skin types. The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the blood when treating vascular lesions or the melanin when treating pigmented lesions damaging them. The body’s natural processes then remove the injured tissue giving the skin a more even and youthful appearance. Credits: x.

Probably because of the warm steam that opened up the pores, the pain level for manual extraction has been reduced.

Before starting the IPL treatment, the therapist applied a layer of protective gel on my face. The IPL treatment was really quick. It only emits a little heat and light in a few areas of my face.

And of course, a relaxing face massage to increase absorbency and efficacy.

Mordecai does not provide shoulder massage because shoulder massage requires the client to change into perhaps a tube dress. As Mordecai serves male clients too, they find it better to avoid female clients changing into tube dress.

Facial treatment always end of with a cooling mask that is applied onto the face with moisturizing effect. 20mins later, the mask was removed facial ampoule was applied all over my face to moisturise and protect my skin.

Education!

Facial ampoule (精华素）are typically small, glass containers that are filled with a concentration of highly active ingredients. Ampoules usually contain botanical extracts, vitamins, and enzymes in various combinations and do not have any preservatives or chemicals due to the airtight packaging. Credits to x.

The whole facial treatment was generally enjoyable and cozy, with a thick blanket over me and music playing in the background. I like that the rooms are divided by a door so clients that come in duo can choose to communicate with each other just by leaving the door opened.

Some photos of my skin after the facial treatment. Honestly, I won’t say that the pictures present you very visible results since I do not have large acne/pimples to show you, but what I can say is my skin certainly feel softer and smoother without any bumps (black heads are the biggest culprits). All in all, facial treatments are just regular maintenance to your skin in my opinion.
